Services
I am a professional translator specialising in the fields of finance, law and management. To ensure that only the best quality work is delivered, I translate solely from English into French, which is my mother tongue.
I can also proofread and revise documents already translated from English into French.
High-quality work
I have degrees from four different universities, plus more than 25 years' professional experience of translation and interpreting, and can therefore provide my clients with very high-quality work, characterised by:
- strict attention paid to deadlines
- a meticulous and polished prose style
- quality control at each stage of the job
- harmonised terminology
- translations supplied with the same formatting and page layout as the original documents
As a member of the Société française des Traducteurs and the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting, as well as various professional translation networks, I take part in CPD activities at regular intervals, to make sure that I maintain the high level of quality that my clients have come to expect (see testimonials opposite).
Continuing professional development (CPD):
I am an Expert près la Cour d'appel d'Aix-en-Provence, and an accredited translator and interpreter for the English language. As part of my CPD activities, I am taking the University of Nice diploma course [Diplôme Universitaire or "DU"] in Advanced Legal Training for Expert Translators. I obtained my first DU in May 2010 and began a second 2-year DU course in September 2010. I am also enrolled on the Procedural Training in Legal Expertise course, run by the UCECAAP (Union des Compagnies d'Experts près la Cour d'appel d'Aix-en-Provence). I took 5 modules in 2009 and added a further 8 in 2010, (including one in Marseille, for which I passed an exam).
I am also a member of the French Committee of Traducteurs Interprètes près la Cour d'appel d'Aix-en-Provence and a member of the CETIJ (Compagnie des Experts Traducteurs Interprètes Judiciaires).
I have also recently taken part in two training courses in legal affairs: Petit kit de survie du traducteur juridique (Lyon, 2009) and Traduire les contrats sans trahir le droit (Aix-en-Provence, 2010).
I adhere to and apply the SfT's Code of Professional Ethics [Code de Déontologie de la Société Française des Traducteurs], and the ITI's Code of Professional Conduct.
Highly specialised services
Whether your translation requirements are:
- highly specialised;
- urgent;
- substantial in terms of volume;
- or all of these…
... then look no further: I can meet your requirements, even if this means weekend working or if the client is not available to clarify any queries regarding the original documents. Prestigious clients
The quality of my work and my rapid turnaround times have been appreciated by a number of prestigious clients over the years, including:
- the actor Peter O'Toole: I wrote his acceptance speech in 1989 for France's prestigious order of merit, the Légion d'Honneur, and taught him French at his home in Hampstead;
- the City of Manchester: I was a member of the team translating the documents supporting its Olympic bid;
- GrandMet and Guinness: in 1997, I joined forces with a team of three other professionals to translate and proofread 150,000 words of documentation in three days, so that the two companies could complete their merger within the timescale agreed;
- the Deutsche Telekom group, for whom I have translated privatisation proposals;
- the University of Bedford, where I taught from 2003 to 2004;
- the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting, which asked me to make a presentation to language students on the MA course at the University of Leeds, on "How to market yourself successfully as a freelance translator". This was part of a joint conference organised by ITI and the university.
